RED-TAIL ANGELS:
THE TUSKEGEE EXPERIENCE

LOCATION: POOLER, GA
SQUARE FOOTAGE: APPROX. 8,280
CLIENT: NATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE MIGHTY EIGHTH AIR FORCE

AT THE BEGINNING, ALL THEY WANTED TO DO WAS FLY. BY THE END, THEY SOARED.

The National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force is a setting that tells the story of the American heroes who fought and ultimately won World War II. Among these heroes were the Tuskegee Airmen, a story that I believe could be expanded upon in the museum. As such, this project is a proposal for a more substantial and interactive experience to educate visitors on the airmens’ role within the war, the obstacles they overcame, and the legacy they left behind. It is said that the Tuskegee Airmen painted the tails of their P-51 Mustang planes red to let the world know who they were, to watch them. As the visitor you are their audience, watching them ascend to greatness.
